Cookie Policy

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small piece of information stored by a website in or through your browser.

Cookies can be used for many purposes, including keeping someone signed in, completing a secure invitation flow, remembering preferences or measuring website activity.

Not every form of browser storage is technically a cookie. The Study Coach also uses technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage inside the learner application.

2. What The Study Coach currently uses

The Study Coach currently uses cookies primarily where they are necessary for:

• authentication
• account security
• Support Circle invitation and verification flows
• short-lived interface steps connected to those flows

The public marketing website does not currently use advertising or marketing analytics cookies.

We do not currently use:

• Google Analytics
• Google Tag Manager
• Meta Pixel
• Microsoft Clarity
• PostHog
• Mixpanel
• Plausible
• behavioural advertising cookies

3. Authentication cookies

After a user signs in, The Study Coach uses authentication technology provided through Supabase.

Authentication cookies are used to:

• keep a user securely signed in
• identify the authenticated session
• protect access to account areas

These cookies are necessary for signed-in parts of the service to work.

Their exact technical names may vary because they are managed by the authentication provider.

4. Support Circle cookies

Support Circle invitation and acceptance flows currently use several short-lived first-party cookies.

These may include:

sc_support_invite_redemption

Purpose: keeps signed invitation context while a supporter completes an invitation.

Typical duration: up to approximately two hours and never beyond the relevant invite expiry.

sc_support_invite_mailbox_verified

Purpose: records that the invited email address has completed the required verification step.

Duration: until the applicable invitation/verification expiry.

sc_support_invite_password_configured

Purpose: records completion of a password-setup step during invitation acceptance where required.

Duration: until the applicable invitation/verification expiry.

sc_support_invite_otp_sent_at

Purpose: supports a short verification-code cooldown and helps prevent repeated sending.

Typical duration: approximately 60 seconds.

sc_owner_supporter_invite_link

Purpose: short-lived convenience state when an account owner copies a supporter invitation link.

Typical duration: approximately 60 seconds.

A development-only test cookie may exist in development or QA environments. It is not intended for ordinary Production use.

5. Strictly necessary cookies

The current Study Coach cookies described above are used to provide security, authentication or a feature specifically requested by the user.

If those cookies are blocked, some signed-in or Support Circle functionality may not work correctly.

6. localStorage

The learner application may use localStorage for purposes such as:

• recovering unsaved learner text
• recovering some learning material
• remembering whether Eddie is visible
• remembering limited interface preferences
• remembering walkthrough/tutorial completion

Some recovery entries may temporarily contain learner-created text.

Sensitive recovery information is designed to be cleared on sign-out where implemented.

Some recovery data may be limited to approximately 30 days.

7. sessionStorage

The learner application may use sessionStorage for temporary in-browser information such as:

• Talk It Out bridge state, which may include a transcript
• unsent Just Ask drafts
• temporary Review, Math Work or Visual Thinking interface state
• graph or layout information

sessionStorage normally lasts only for the relevant browser session.

8. Public website

A person who simply visits the public Study Coach marketing website does not currently receive a Study Coach-specific advertising or analytics cookie from the public layout.

Cookies become more relevant when a person:

• signs in
• uses an authenticated area
• accepts a Support Circle invitation
• uses another feature that requires secure session state

9. Error monitoring

The Study Coach uses Sentry for technical error monitoring.

The current implementation is configured to remove or avoid sending ordinary sensitive content such as emails, cookies, prompts, transcripts and notes in error reports.

We have not identified an advertising or behavioural-tracking cookie associated with this implementation.

10. Payment providers

The public Study Coach website does not currently load Stripe.js as an advertising or analytics tool.

When hosted payment or account-management services are made available, Stripe may use its own cookies or similar technologies on Stripe-controlled pages for security, fraud prevention and payment processing.

Those technologies are governed by Stripe’s own policies.

11. Managing cookies

Most browsers allow you to:

• view cookies
• delete cookies
• block cookies
• limit certain forms of browser storage

Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent sign-in or other secure account features from working.

Browser controls for localStorage and sessionStorage vary by browser.

12. No current advertising or marketing tracking

The Study Coach does not currently use cookies for targeted advertising.

The public website does not currently use marketing pixels or behavioural-advertising technology.

If we introduce non-essential analytics, advertising or similar tracking in the future, we will update this policy and add any consent or preference controls that are appropriate or required before relying on those technologies.

13. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when technology or our use of service providers changes.

The effective date at the top of the page identifies the current version.
