Terms of Use

Effective October 10, 2026

These Terms of Use govern access to and use of The Study Coach.

The Study Coach is operated by 1874688 Ontario Inc., Ontario, Canada.

By creating, accepting or using an account, or by using The Study Coach, you agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. What The Study Coach is

The Study Coach is a learning workspace and coaching service designed to help learners understand, organise, practise, research, revise, plan and work more independently.

The service includes learning tools, workspaces and Eddie, an AI-supported learning coach.

The Study Coach is designed to support learning. It does not guarantee grades, academic results, admission outcomes, employment outcomes or mastery of any particular subject.

2. Account holders and learners

An account holder or subscriber may be:

  • a parent or guardian purchasing access for one or more learners; or
  • an adult learner purchasing and using The Study Coach for themselves.

The account holder and learner may therefore be the same person or different people.

If a person is not legally able to enter into a binding contract in their jurisdiction, an appropriate parent, guardian or other legally authorized adult must accept these Terms and be responsible for the paid account.

Account holders are responsible for the accuracy of account information they provide and for managing access to their account.

3. Account security

You are responsible for keeping passwords and account credentials secure.

Do not share credentials in a way that allows an unauthorized person to access a learner account.

Contact us promptly at hello@thestudycoach.ca if you believe an account has been compromised.

4. Learner ownership and academic integrity

The Study Coach is deliberately designed to help without taking ownership of the learning away from the learner.

Eddie may:

  • explain
  • ask questions
  • help find a starting point
  • break down a task
  • help organize ideas
  • help use evidence
  • model similar examples
  • help review or revise learner-created work
  • help check reasoning
  • help practise
  • suggest a useful next step

The learner remains responsible for their own final work and for following the rules of their school, course, teacher, institution or other learning setting.

The Study Coach should not be used to misrepresent AI-generated work as work created by the learner.

5. AI-generated information

AI systems can make mistakes.

Eddie and other AI-assisted features may produce information that is:

  • incomplete
  • inaccurate
  • outdated
  • misunderstood
  • inappropriate for a particular assignment or context

Learners remain responsible for checking important information, instructions, calculations, sources and requirements.

Do not rely on The Study Coach as the sole source for high-stakes decisions.

6. Educational support, not professional advice

The Study Coach is a learning-support product.

It is not a replacement for:

  • a teacher
  • tutor
  • educational assessment
  • medical professional
  • therapist
  • psychologist
  • lawyer
  • financial adviser
  • emergency or crisis service

Insights and Support View information are educational and observational. They are not diagnoses or professional assessments.

If professional advice or assessment is needed, consult an appropriately qualified person.

7. Eddie and learner context

Eddie does not automatically receive everything stored in a learner’s account.

Depending on the area of the product, Eddie may use:

  • the learner’s current message
  • relevant prior conversation
  • material the learner deliberately shares
  • the active work item, math problem, visual or workspace the learner is currently using

Some uploaded documents or images may be processed when the learner chooses to use an intake or analysis feature.

The Study Coach is designed to keep AI context connected to the learning task rather than treating the learner’s entire account as one unrestricted AI data source.

8. Talk It Out

Talk It Out allows a learner to speak instead of beginning with typed text.

Speech may be sent to a third-party transcription provider to convert audio to text.

The learner can review and edit the resulting text before sending it into the learning conversation.

Do not use Talk It Out where recording audio would violate another person’s privacy or applicable law.

9. Learner Insights

Learner Insights are intended to help make patterns in learning easier to notice.

They do not diagnose:

  • learning disabilities
  • medical conditions
  • intelligence
  • motivation
  • effort
  • fixed learning styles

They should not be treated as a substitute for teacher judgement or professional assessment.

10. Support Circle

Support Circle allows trusted people to be connected around a learner.

Access is intentionally bounded.

A supporter does not automatically receive access to:

  • raw Eddie chats
  • learner Insights
  • private notes
  • uploaded files
  • raw learner work
  • safety interactions
  • medical or other private learner information

The Support View provided to a supporter is a separate derived view intended to help that person support the learner without turning the learner’s private workspace into a monitoring feed.

Account owners are responsible for inviting only appropriate trusted supporters.

11. Your content

As between you and 1874688 Ontario Inc., you retain ownership of original content that you create and submit to The Study Coach, subject to any rights belonging to third parties.

You give 1874688 Ontario Inc. a limited permission to host, store, reproduce, process, transmit, format and otherwise use that content only as reasonably necessary to:

  • operate The Study Coach
  • provide requested features
  • create backups where applicable
  • process content through service providers
  • provide support
  • maintain security
  • comply with law

This permission lasts only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes and is subject to the Privacy Policy.

12. Content you upload

Only upload material that you are permitted to use.

You are responsible for respecting copyright, privacy, confidentiality and other rights that may apply to:

  • textbooks
  • worksheets
  • assignments
  • articles
  • photographs
  • files
  • school materials
  • other third-party content

The ability to upload or process a file does not mean The Study Coach grants permission to copy or use material in violation of another person’s rights.

13. Acceptable use

Do not use The Study Coach to:

  • break the law
  • harm, threaten, harass or exploit another person
  • compromise another person’s privacy
  • gain unauthorized access to accounts or systems
  • upload malware or malicious code
  • interfere with the operation or security of the service
  • impersonate another person
  • intentionally bypass access controls
  • use another learner’s private information without authorization
  • infringe intellectual-property rights
  • use the service to facilitate academic dishonesty or fraud

We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect users, the service, other people, or legal rights.

14. Third-party services

The Study Coach relies on third-party services to provide parts of the product.

These may include services for:

  • hosting
  • authentication
  • database and file storage
  • artificial intelligence
  • speech-to-text
  • text-to-speech
  • payment processing
  • email delivery
  • error monitoring

Use of those services may involve processing information by the provider as described in the Privacy Policy.

15. Trials

The Study Coach’s current public offer includes a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.

A free trial does not automatically become a paid subscription simply because the trial period ends.

A paid subscription begins only when the account holder actively chooses to subscribe through the available payment process.

Trial availability, eligibility and duration may change for future offers. The terms shown when a trial begins will control that trial.

16. Paid subscriptions

Current prices and subscription options are shown on the Pricing page and, when payment enrollment is available, as part of the purchase process.

Paid subscriptions may include one learner with additional learner seats available up to the limits displayed at purchase.

Unless another billing period is clearly stated, recurring subscriptions renew on their stated billing schedule until cancelled.

Any taxes required by law may be added or collected as applicable.

The Study Coach uses Stripe for payment processing and does not store full payment-card numbers.

17. Cancellation and billing questions

Account-management tools may change as the service develops.

If a self-service cancellation option is not available, the account holder may contact hello@thestudycoach.ca for billing or cancellation assistance.

Any cancellation, refund or payment rights required by applicable consumer-protection law continue to apply.

18. Pause

A Pause option is planned so an account can keep continuity at a lower monthly amount. Pause is not currently available to activate.

19. Changes to the service

The Study Coach is an actively developed product.

Features may be added, changed, improved, replaced or discontinued.

We will not intentionally use this provision to avoid obligations relating to a paid service already purchased where applicable law requires otherwise.

Material changes affecting paid subscriptions or privacy will be communicated as appropriate.

20. Availability

We work to keep The Study Coach available and reliable, but no software service is guaranteed to be uninterrupted or error-free.

Maintenance, technical failures, third-party outages, internet problems or other events may occasionally make some or all of the service unavailable.

21. Disclaimer of warranties

To the extent permitted by applicable law, The Study Coach is provided on an “as available” basis.

We do not guarantee that:

  • every answer will be correct
  • every source will be complete
  • every feature will always be available
  • use of the service will produce a particular grade, result or outcome
  • the service will meet every learner’s needs

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

22. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, 1874688 Ontario Inc. will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from use of The Study Coach.

Where liability cannot legally be excluded, any limitation will apply only to the extent permitted by law.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability where applicable law does not allow it to be limited.

23. Suspension or termination

We may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary because of:

  • serious or repeated breach of these Terms
  • security concerns
  • fraudulent or unlawful activity
  • non-payment of applicable fees
  • risks to other users or the service

Where appropriate and reasonably possible, we will try to provide notice.

Users may also stop using The Study Coach at any time.

24. Privacy

Use of The Study Coach is also governed by the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

25. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without excluding consumer or other rights that cannot legally be waived.

Subject to any mandatory legal rights regarding jurisdiction or dispute resolution, disputes relating to these Terms or The Study Coach will be handled in Ontario, Canada.

26. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as The Study Coach evolves.

If a change materially affects existing users or a paid subscription, we will provide notice appropriate to the circumstances.

The effective date at the top of the Terms identifies the current version.
