Research & Sources
Research with a place to keep the question and the evidence.
Research gets easier to use when the question, the notes and the sources stay connected. The Study Coach gives learners somewhere to define what they are trying to find out, collect useful information and keep the real sources attached to the project.

Know what you are trying to find out.
The Research Brief starts with purpose: what the learner is working on, what they are trying to find out, and what they already know. Research begins with a question worth answering, not with a pile of tabs collected at random.
Collect information without losing the thread.
As useful information turns up, it can stay with the brief — in research cards and Filing Cabinet — so the learner can return to a note, a quote or a lead without reconstructing the search from memory.
Know where the information came from.
Sources keeps the books, websites, articles and other references attached to the project so the learner can return to them later. Good research is not about making evidence look impressive. It is about being able to trace an idea back to where it came from.

Bring the evidence back into the work.
The point of gathering sources is to use them. A learner can take what they found in research back into My Work — to support a claim, explain an idea, or decide what still needs another look. The writing still belongs to them.
Keep the question, the evidence and the work connected.
Give research a place to live beside the assignment it is meant to support.
